Deep Fried Ice Cream
They say everything is better when you deep fry it. Well, we don't know about everything, but it's definitely true for ice cream! Just when you thought your favorite frozen dessert couldn't be any more delicious.
- 1 quart vanilla ice cream
- 3 cups Cornflakes, Captain Crunch, or Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, crushed
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3 large egg whites
- 2 quarts peanut or vegetable oil
Crush the cereal of your choice into small flakes. Separate egg whites and beat until foamy. Finally, scoop the ice cream into eight 1/2 cup-sized balls. Roll each ball in the egg whites then in the crushed cereal. Be sure to cover the surface of each ice cream ball completely with cereal flakes.
Line them up on a cookie sheet and stick in the freezer for 3 hours, until firm.
Heat 2 quarts of oil in a large Dutch oven up to 350° F, monitoring the temperature consistently with a thermometer. Remove ice cream balls from freezer, and fry them in batches, one or two at a time. You only need to fry them for 10-15 seconds until they're golden brown. Drain the excess oil on paper towels, and enjoy.
