In 1990, Ty Measom, an engineer for a Logan fabrication company felt that there was an opportunity in the outdoor cooking market that wasn't being addressed. He recognized that many campers and outdoors' people had an interest in outdoor cooking, wanting to grill and cook in the outdoors - not just on the patio. So began Camp Chef and the design of a stove that was versatile enough to address the needs of the avid outdoorsman. Camp Chef was born and its tag line became "The Way to Cook Outdoors™."
Camp Chef's first stove was the DB-60D, a powerful two-burner stove with side shelves. It has changed some over the years but it is still the flag ship of the Camp Chef line now known as the Pro-60. The Pro-60's initial preview at a catering show created a buzz about the "NEW" way to cook outdoors. The PRO 60 eventually won Consumer Digest's Best Buy award and has remained a popular option for people looking to cook outdoors.
Camp Chef continued to grow, adding accessories that were designed to make cooking more convenient, versatile, and easy. Barbecue grill boxes, flattop griddles, and carry bags all became part of the Camp Chef versatile cooking system™. Camp Chef's versatile cooking system™ allows users much more variety when cooking in the outdoors. Its broad range of accessories will allow users to grill, griddle, boil, or fry.
Camp Chef entered the cast iron cooking market in the year 2000 thanks to a customer whose Ultimate Dutch Oven worked very well on the stoves. Camp Chef has become renowned for its cast iron quality and its signature True-Seasoned Finish. This finish means no at-home seasoning required, Camp Chef cast iron is ready to cook on right out of the box. Besides the Camp Chef brand, Camp Chef now produces numerous private label pieces for several key outlets.
Some of Camp Chef's latest ventures in the outdoor cooking market are their food smokers and outdoor ovens. Camp Chef pioneered the first full-service Outdoor Camp Oven. People that love spending time in the outdoors can now bake right in camp. Pizza, casseroles, fresh bread, or cookies are now all possibilities.
Camp Chef's Smoke Vault™ has the widest heat range available today and will take a cook's skills and abilities to next level. The capability to add those unique, mouth-watering smokey flavors into meat is a must by some outdoor cooks standards.
