Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent from Unboxing to Game Time This is my first smoker, and after doing a fair amount of research between Camp Chef models and another well-known brand, I leaned heavily toward the Camp Chef. I liked the feature of easy ash removal and the controls seemed pretty straight forward. This smoker has not disappointed. I want to focus on the unboxing part for a moment, as I was very impressed with the design of the packaging and the box. I have unboxed many large appliances, but this one was the best I've experienced. After lifting the first stapled box flap, the box literally opened up and away in a very orderly manner to reveal the smoker and contents. I was able to unbox and assemble this unit by myself. There is no awkward lifting to remove it from the box, nor did I have to do a bunch of cutting. The instructions suggest having someone help you roll the smoker on its top and hold it to install the legs. I was able to use one of the styrofoam pieces to brace the unit on its top. I had no trouble putting this thing together; the instructions were very clear. I am also impressed with the build quality of the smoker. Every bit as robust as others on the market. Now to the smoking. As I said, this is my first smoker, so I will be learning how to do this right for a while. I found many recipes online and our first meal was a couple of boneless loin chops and a small steak. I seared the chops in a pan, as suggested by the recipe, and set the smoker to 250 degrees. I used the meat probe to check progress, and it worked like a charm. We were kind of pushed for time, so after about 1.5 hours (recipe called for total of 2 hours to smoke), I pulled the probe out and cranked the heat up to 350 degrees to finish the meat off. Within 5 minutes, I checked the meat with our other instant read thermometer and found that it had reached the done temperature. It was fantastic! We got the smoky flavor in the meat and was able to get it done quick enough for dinner time. I am thoroughly impressed with this smoker and will recommend it to others.
