Sear Box Natural Gas Valve is rated out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by JoshGtz from Huge Improvement! I bought this to replace the valve in my sear box hoping to improve the cooking experience. I've had the woodwind+sear box for about 6 months now and only bothered to have it connected to my natural gas line without drilling out the orifice of the original valve. The flame was always tiny at the HI setting and the NG line fully open. The grates did get to about 550 deg on good warm day but it took quite a while and if wind started blowing it certainly put a hamper on things. Searing was an issue because you need to have the cover open and the flame was too small to keep the grates at a hi temp so I was pretty disappointed with the sear box. As I was ordering the FTG600 griddle I looked to see if they had a NG conversion for that (there isn't one yet unfortunately) I stumbled into this valve, which is very new according to the customer service chat. I ordered it with the hopes of it making a little improvement on my sear box with NG connection. It took about 10 minutes to install following the easy pdf instructions. I fired it up and HOLY COW! The flame even on low is easily twice the size of the previous valve on hi. I can't even turn it further than medium because the flame is too huge and yellow (meaning lack of oxygen). The grate heats up very quickly, I clocked the temp on the grate at 750 deg (a good 200 deg higher than before). Highly recommend it and it would be nice if Camp Chef made this an option when buying the searbox, have the customer select what fuel they'll be using, $30 is steep if I have to do this for multiple camp chef products.
