French Fried Onions
These French Fried Onions work wonderfully on your green bean casserole or as a snack all by themselves. With only four ingredients, you've got a savory appetizer, side dish, or topping for your Thanksgiving feast.
- Spanish or yellow onions - 2-3
- Flour - 2 cups
- Milk - 2 cups
- Oil (for frying) - 2 inches covered in Dutch oven or frying pot
- Sea salt
Heat about 2 inches of oil in a Dutch oven or other heavy duty pot to 370° F.
Cut off top end of one onion and peel. Leave root on. Slice onions into 1/8-1/4 inch slices and separate into rings.
Get 2 pie plates. In one, put about 2 cups milk. In another, about 2 cups of all-purpose flour.
One at a time, dip the onion rings into the milk. Shake off excess milk and put into the bowl with flour. Use your hands to move the rings around, coating them in flour. Shake off excess flour and set onto a cookie sheet or other pan.
Fry the rings in batches in the oil until golden brown. Drain on a cookie sheet lined with a paper towel and sprinkle with salt. You can store them in a bag or container lined with a paper towel, or eat them right away. For topping casseroles, chop them into pieces.
