Cousin Rick's Say's "Even an Old Hick can Teach Them Rugrats New Tricks!"
Yeah Buddy, if you're a Cousin Rick fan then you know I love outdoor cookin' with my Camp Chef gear. From their amazing Lumber Jack skillets to their Smoke Vault Smokers, you won't find any better in the field. Now you can take that advice from an old outdoor chef like me! With the success of my latest cookbook, Rick Black's Cabin Cookin', I have been hounded by my readers for more recipes for kids.
Yep I guess it would be safe to say that them little Tikes enjoy cooking as much as Mom and Dad. And, that's a great thing to hear!
So by popular demand, I wrote this article for the rugrats to enjoy. Some of my best childhood memories of my parents' cabin involved helping dad and mom make great-tasting snacks. However, don't think for one buck-in-rut minute that the cubbies of the cabin enjoy cooking and eating camping snacks more than the big bears. Take time to teach the little campers the fun of Camp Chef cooking, and they too will remember the time spent with you at the cabin. Who knows, they just might grow up and write a best-selling cabin cookbook too!
Lumber Jack Stink Bait
1 cup butter
1 cup Parmesan cheese
5 cups toasted oat cereal
1 teaspoon Accent
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder with parsley
Heat the butter in the Camp Chef Lumber Jack Skillet until melted; remove from heat. Stir in the cheese; add the cereal. Sprinkle with seasoning, and mix thoroughly. "If this doesn't put a smile on them little critters, nothin' well"
Coyote Chow
3/4 cup peanut butter
1 cup chocolate chips
1/4 cup butter
8 cups wheat flakes cereal
2 cups powdered sugar
Place the powdered sugar in a large brown paper sack, and set aside. Melt the peanut butter, chocolate chips, and butter together in a saucepan over low heat (I use my Pro 60 camp Chef stove on low).
Place the cereal in a large bowl, and pour the chocolate mixture over the cereal, stirring evenly to coat. Pour the chocolate-coated cereal into the powdered sugar sack, and shake it like the Dickens.
Sleeping Bag Nighttime Nachos
1 pound deer burger or beef
1/4 cup chopped yellow onions
1 cup pork and beans
1/2 cup BBQ sauce (from my Grillin' Like a Villain Cookbook)
1 bag nacho cheese flavor corn chips
1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
Brown the ground venison and onions in a pan and drain any fat. Add the beans and BBQ sauce. Heat thoroughly. Place a serving of chips on a plate and top with meat mixture and then the grated cheese. This is a great bedtime snack at the cabin or camper.
Well there ya' go my trailblazing comrades. Take time and teach them cookie critters the art of outdoor cookery and you will have many of good stories to tell when you get back from camp. And speaking of camp, make sure to check out all the outstanding Camp Chef products. Cause Cousin Rick Says!
Keep your powder dry and I will see you on the trail!
