Chef Kurt Ploetz

Kurt Ploetz was born and raised in the great state of Oregon. My father was an avid outdoorsman; so from a young age I learned to hunt and fish and enjoyed exploring Northwest and Eastern Oregon. My wife's father had been a notable bear hunter in Oregon and Northern California for over 40 years. I have enjoyed bear hunting with dogs and loved the sound of treeing a bear in the woods of Southern Oregon. Each year during hunting season you can find me in Eastern Oregon with my brother and his buddies looking for elk and deer. Winter and spring I have been fishing and crabbing off of the Oregon Coast out of Garibaldi.
After 25 years in the construction industry, I decided to change careers; after graduating with honors from a Cordon Bleu certified culinary school I started a new life as a seasonal chef in some Alaska's finest fishing lodges. From Southeast Alaska to Bristol Bay to Lake Illiamna my specialties have included seafood and wild game. I spend many hours experimenting with brines and rubs and smoking what I catch, my smoked salmon dip is the hit of every holiday potluck.
I have been a fan of NASCAR for most of his life and now as a Chef I have been able to work with one of NASCAR'S favorite caterers feeding over 35 teams including crew, drivers and television personalities. My greatest thrill was delivering Alaskan Sockeye Salmon that I caught and prepared to driver Jeff Gordon, once at Atlanta and also at Texas Motor Speedway. He sent me a hat as a thank you.
My outdoor activities include a good meal cooked on the fine equipment made by Camp Chef.
I can't wait to cook for you soon; check out your local sporting goods stores this fall and look for my smiling face.
I am off to Southeast Alaska's Salmon Falls Resort as a dinner chef and I will look forward to updating this site with news and pictures as the season progresses.
