Tuna Derby

For the second year in a row I have been on a tuna team for the Garibaldi derby . I am first mate on a great 27 foot fishing boat called MR. LUCKY. We headed out of the harbour mouth in the grey dawn to meet the 83 other contestants out in the ocean for a Shotgun start when the Coast Guard sent up a flare. It was go time and we headed northwest in the ocean till we hit the BLUE WATER about 50 miles out.

The lines went in and it was game on . We started out slow and the ocean was pretty rough so we did the best we could. It got rougher as the day passed and we trolled slowly towards port. Our catch for the day was small ,but as we headed back I dozed and dreamed of the ways I would cook my share on my Camp Chef products, like mysingle burner cooker with 60,ooo btus, or smoke some in my smoke vault smoker. we made it in to late for the weigh in , because of the rough ocean ,but are already thinking about next years derby.
