Sitting in My Favorite Dutch Oven

By on June 2, 2011

Fondest memories come from the International Redwood Gathering held in northwestern California every other year. Known as the IRG, this is an event my spouse and I have organized and hosted in a beautiful grove of redwoods adjacent to the Van Duzen River in Carlotta. Think of it as a summer camp for the young at heart. Up to 250 people, and over 125 Teardrop & Tiny Travel Trailers, converge upon this site for a week of good food, good times, and sharing the love of these tiny trailers.

We have had a fun filled schedule over the years which includes a horseshoe tournament, nightly campfires with music and presentations by the Park Rangers, a Teardrop Derby, Rubber Ducky River Regatta Race, an underground deep pit BBQ, Dutch Oven demonstrations, (including a 20 pound prime rib cooked in a 20″ inch Cabela’s Dutch Oven made by Camp Chef), and potlucks featuring Dutch Oven cooking on Friday and Saturday nights. The friendships made are sustained throughout the years and we have folks who plan their summer vacation and travel thousands of miles to come and have a great time in the old growth forest with us. And to top it off, when the time in July rolls around, it has been some of the nicest weather we could ever hope for here on the North Coast. It’s all about eating good and having fun in the great outdoors.
