Holiday Sugar Cookies

These sugar cookie bars are absolutely excellent.  They are moist, soft, buttery, sweet, and irresistible!  The flavor and texture of these cookies are fantastic, and the best part is they are so simple to make!

I prefer using this recipe as an alternative to cut-out sugar cookies.  You still get the same great cookie taste without the hassle, in half the time!  I know it is hard during the holiday season to find time to set aside to make cut-out sugar cookies. Therefore, this recipe is the perfect solution for someone without a lot of time, craving something sweet and delicious.  However, I would not recommend using this recipe for cut-out sugar cookies because the dough is very sticky and hard to handle.

This recipe is one that you will want to add your holiday cookie collection.  The simplicity and deliciousness of this recipe will surely be a crowd pleaser and the perfect holiday treat for neighbors, family, and friends!  However, make sure to bring enough copies of the recipe with you!

For this recipe I used the Camp Chef Cast Iron Skookie Pans, but you can use a standard jelly roll pan, or the Camp Chef Cast Iron Pizza Pan.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ Cups Sugar
  • 1 Cup Butter, Room Temperature
  • 8 Ounces Cream Cheese, Room Temperature
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 2 ½ Cups Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ½ Teaspoon Baking Soda

Frosting:

  • 2 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • ¼ Cup Milk
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla
  • ½ Cup Butter, Room Temperature
  • Food Coloring
  • Pastry Bags and Decorating Tips

Directions for the Cookie:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

 

Cream the butter, sugar, and cream cheese together with an electric mixer until the mixture is light and fluffy.  Add in the egg and vanilla, mixing until well incorporated.  Add the flour, baking powder, and baking soda into the butter mixture and mix until ingredients are well combined.

Press the dough evenly into the greased Camp Chef Cast Iron Skookie Pan or pan of your choice.  This recipe fills 4-Camp Chef Skookie Pans.  TIP: The dough will be very sticky so make sure to grease the pan.

Bake for 20 minutes, until the edges are golden brown.

Directions for the Frosting:

Mix butter, vanilla, milk, and powdered sugar until smooth.  Color the icing with food coloring until desired color is reached. I colored my icing red and green.

Once the cookie has completely cooled, frost the cookie.  You can add as much as icing as you prefer.  I personally love icing, so frosted the cookies pretty thick.  Once the cookies are frosted, decorate as desired with pasty bags and decorting tips.  I tried to make a peppermint candy and an ornament, but let’s just say I’m not a professional cookie decorator.

This recipe is the perfect solution for any holiday gift or party.  It could also be used for a holiday family fun activity.  You could make individual sugar cookies for each child and then let them personalize their own cookie.  These cookies could be decorated with icing, sprinkles, candies, chocolate chips, or peppermints!  I hope you enjoy these sugar cookie bars as much as I do!
