Brownie Wars

I love brownies. My friends love brownies. We are talking the almost raw, super fudgy, melt in your mouth, eat half the pan kind of brownies.
Up until now, we have not been able to find a homemade brownie that rivals the box. Sad huh? With many people trying to get away from boxed mixes, a homemade version HAS to be found. Get ready…I think I may have found it! But you have to make 2 recipes to figure out which is which!!
Disclaimer: The brownies will not turn out as dark as the box. I just recently found out why. Boxed brownies have red dye in them to make them look more “chocolaty”! For years, I thought it was the cocoa, but no. Pretty gross, I know. Try these! You might be surprised at the outcome!

Here is the original. I only deviated by adding mini chocolate chips to the top and the baking time. 35 minutes??

Brownie #1


  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 oz. chocolate (unsweetened)
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2 T. butter
  • 1 t. baking powder
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. chocolate chips or walnuts, optional
  • 1 t. vanilla


  1. Beat eggs with sugar, add butter to chocolate, add a pinch of salt; combine mixtures, beating thoroughly, then rest of ingredients.
  2. Bake in a greased shallow 8×8 pan at 350 for about 15-20 minutes, until toothpick comes out with just a tiny but of wet on it.
