Outdoor Chef Kurt’s Late Season White Goose Hunt

By admin | March 17, 2009

I had the pleasure of hunting with Outfitter Darren Roe and Central Oregon Outdoor Icon Gary Lewis on a late season white goose damage control hunt on the Pacific Flyway near Klamath Falls Oregon.  The hunt was being filmed by producer Brad Douglas for a new television show debuting soon on Bend Broadband cable.

We set up the decoys in the pitch black dark of early morning after driving on treacherous icy roads across the dessert.  The temperature was 11 degrees when the Final Approach ground blinds were grassed up to conceal them.
We crawled in and waited for the action to begin.  When shooting light came the skies were filled with cackling geese.  We waited for the command to shoot and when ordered we filled the sky with flying steel shot and the geese fell down like rain.

In the quiet moments between flocks I dozed in my coffin blind and dreamed of goose breasts and goose jerky being smoked in my new Camp Chef Smoke Vault.  The filming went great and I will wait in great anticipation for the show with me on it to air sometime soon.
HAPPY HUNTING FROM OUTDOOR CHEF KURT
P.S.  If anyone wants any goose brine recipes for smoking or any other goose recipes email me and I will be happy to send you some. (fishgriller@yahoo.com)
